Itinerary

Day 1: Villages of the Hajar Mountains

Meet your guide early in Muscat to leave the city for the villages of the Hajar Mountains. Your first destination is the picturesque Birkat al Mouz. This village is perched on the mountain and offers plenty of opportunities for a quiet walk. Drive another 45 minutes to arrive at Al Hamra. The 500-year-old mudbrick town makes a perfect lunch break environment. Walk for an hour before starting an off-road journey to the top of Jebel Shams, Oman's highest peak. The breathtaking view over Wadi An Nakhr, Oman's Grand Canyon, will make perfect photoshoots. Before reaching Nizwa, your last destination of the day, stop by Misfat Al Abriyeen. Walk in this authentic mountain village to discover the lives of locals. Finally, reach Nizwa, where you rest for the day. Accommodation: Nizwa Heritage Inn or similar

Day 2: From Nizwa to Wahiba Sands

If your journey to Nizwa takes place on a Friday, go to the Cattle Market to see how traders and buyers negotiate. Whatever the day, you can also shop local delicacies at Nizwa Souk before climbing up on its ancient Fort. Continue east to enter the Ash-Sharqiyyah region. The visit starts with Ibra, one of Oman’s oldest cities and gateway to the desert. Walk into the historical city center and explore its traditional market, dating back to when Ibra was an important trading center. Leave the city behind to enter the land of Bedouins: Wahiba Sands. In the middle of the dunes, meet members of this Arabian nomadic tribe in their desert camp, where you spend the night. If you request it, you can ride camels or have fun with other activities in the sand (extra). In the evening, share a traditional barbecue and enjoy the myriad of stars in the sky. Accommodation: OYO 107 Al Areen Hotel Apartment or similar

Day 3: Ras al-Jinz

After a traditional breakfast in the desert, say farewell to the Bedouin family and drive two hours toward the east coast. Explore Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's most famous wadi. You can swim in its large natural pools and relax under the palm trees. Explore the valley before driving to the sea. It takes two hours to reach the fishermen's city of Sur. Facing the sea, it's the perfect scenery for a picnic before visiting its Dhow Boat Yards. Drive to the Ras al Hadd. Here is the Turtle Reserve, where the endangered green turtles find refuge. They come to lay their eggs on the beach at night, a show you might be lucky enough to attend. Note: The high season for turtle watching is between May and August. Accordingly, this activity is not guaranteed. Accommodation: Al Ayjah Plaza Hotel or similar

Day 4: Wadi Shab & Bimmah Sinkhole

Leave early in the morning for your last day of exploration. It starts with the discovery of Wadi Shab. The best way to explore it is on foot, so be ready for an easy 45-minutes hike. Don’t be afraid to get wet as you’ll encounter many waterfalls and natural pools. Swim and relax in this unique natural landscape. As you return to the car, quickly stop by the nearby Fins Beach and its pristine white sands. Driving some 20 minutes north, discover the natural wonder of Bimmah Sinkhole, a large and deep cave with a natural pool. The legend says that it was formed by the fall of a star. On your way to the capital city, explore one last natural splendor, the Wadi Arbyaeen. For two hours, explore the valley and appreciate its large natural pools. Return to Muscat to reach the city by the end of the day.
