Itinerary

Rest by the Coast: The Scenery You Deserve Turtles, Birds, and More

At 8:30, we'll leave Muscat and dive along the coast to reach Sur. We'll stop by Quriyat, a small fishing village, for an hour. This village is a favorite of birdwatchers—species such as Kingfishers and Grey Herons frequent the surrounding lagoons. But the main draw for most visitors is the Quriyat Fort, which sits right in the middle of the town. We'll also check out the large wooden doors and old artillery. There are beaches, a small souk, an old Shareestha tree, a large mangrove swamp, and a seaside corniche to explore. We'll continue to Bimmah Sinkhole, where the locals claim that a piece of the moon fell from the sky and made the giant hole. The view from above is spectacular, but the clear and magnificent water is even more inviting, especially when the sun hits during the day. You can go into the water and even have a foot massage given by the little fish there. If you didn't swim in Bimmah Sinkhole, take the chance to have a relaxing dip on the white beach of Fins. Fresh after our swim in the Gulf of Oman turquoise water, we head to Wadi Shab, where you can trek along greeneries, flows, and pools. Wadi Shab is about 1.5 hours from Muscat and 40 minutes from the town of Sur. The place is paradise, access to which is limited to the river. So hiking, swimming, and bravery are necessary to reach some parts (like the cave and the waterfall). Finally, we get to Sur and Ras al Hadd to stay overnight. Sur, a coastal town of Oman, is located 200 kilometers from the nation's capital, Muscat. The beach town is quiet and offers historical, cultural, and natural attractions. You'll rest and enjoy a great dinner in your hotel as we soon drive to Ras al Jinz to watch sea turtles laying their eggs on the beach.
