About this tour

A culture trip to Uzbekistan lets you learn the secrets of ancient times, meet welcoming locals and listen to folklore that has stood the test of time. In this 4-day Hiking Tour, you’ll start from Bukhara and continue through villages, and the tour ends in Samarkhand.

You will stay with different local families throughout the tour and enjoy the overwhelming hospitality of local people.

Itinerary

Day 1: Bukhara to Hayat village

We start our tour from Bukhara in the morning and transfer to Hayat village located in the Nuratau Mountains. When we arrive at the Hayat village, our host welcomes us and shows us the homestay facilities and rooms. After lunch, we start our excursion through the village by visiting the nearby breeding enclosure of highly endangered wild sheep. Then we continue hiking up Hayat valley, in spring, you can see the diverse flora and fauna of the region and enjoy the green landscape. We'll return to the homestay and take a rest in the huge garden along the mountain. We'll enjoy the local meals and chat with villagers in our guesthouse.

Day 2: Hayat to Uhum village

Today we hike from Hayat to the village of Upper Ukhum which takes about 6 hours. Our luggage will be transported by donkeys to the next homestay. While we're hiking up through Uhum valley, you will see local women baking bread in the traditional oven and doing other household chores. A picnic lunch will be provided for you en route. In the afternoon, we arrive and rest in our guesthouse in Uhum village.

Day 3: Uhum to Asraf village

After breakfast, we prepare for hiking to the next destination, Asraf village which takes about 6 hours. You'll see an old watermill en route which is still in operation. You will see a hydro pump that lifts water up to a local house without using electricity. After a couple of hours of hiking, you'll arrive at your guesthouse in Asraf village and be welcomed by your host, and have a local lunch. In the evening, you may wander around the village and socialize with locals or help the family prepare the traditional dish Plov from home grown vegetables and mountain spices.

Day 4: Asraf to Samarkhand

Today's half-day hike takes us along the buffer zone of Nuratau Nature Reserve to the next Nuratau Mountain Village which takes about 5 hours. We have a nice view of Lake Aydar and the plains of the Kyzylkum steppe during this easy hike. We have lunch with the family in Asraf village and say goodbye to our hosts to leave for Samarkand. We will Arrive at Samarkand ain the evening.
